The Pop Punk Days

Green Day & Rancid Form Supergroup

Two of the biggest bands in punk have merged to form a new “supergroup”.

Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day and Tim Armstrong of Rancid have formed a new act under the name “The Armstrongs”.  Whilst they are not related, the duo have invited their respective family members to round off the line up; with Billie Joe’s son Joey and Tim’s nephew Rey.

“The Armstrongs” yesterday released the track “If There Ever Was A Time” through Hellcat Records, with all proceeds going towards the non-profit punk venue 924 Gilman Street.   Those who know their East Bay punk history will be familiar with the legendary venue, famed for hosting many punk acts who went on to achieve international acclaim.  Amongst those to have began their careers there are Green Day, Rancid, Operation Ivy and The Offspring.

The track has been released as part of a wider documentary, “Turn It Around: The Story of East Bay Punk”, focussing on the growth of the scene and the impact of 923 Gilman.  There is no news yet regarding a DVD a released date, however special screenings for the documentary will begin from next week.
